I decided it was time to take a break from the mounds of homework piling up and write a post to share some of my thoughts and observations.
I have to say that I am really enjoying my classes this semester. I’m taking biology with lab, anatomy & physiology with lab, nutrition, and algebra. Yes, that is right, I need to retake college algebra and trigonometry all over again since it has been more than 7 years since I had to solve for X. I take that back, I had to study algebra for the GMAT but according to college admissions, the GMAT did not count. Repeating algebra is a good thing in disguise for me because I can use this course as a refresher for algebraic word problems that I need to know for the next standardized test in my future. That test being the GRE- I have been advised that there are no ifs, ands, buts or GMAT substitutions on that requirement. Proof that things do happen for a reason.
On the first day of classes I was surprised and relieved that the professors did not request us to go around the room and introduce ourselves to the class. Personal introductions to the class was the first line of business required in all of my MBA classes and often consumed half of the first class with classmates reciting their entire resume and accomplishments. Another major WOW about all of the classes I am taking now is that I do NOT have any group projects or presentations. Group projects and presentations consumed most of my free time during the MBA program and I always ended up frustrated at the under achievers in the group. You know what I am talking about if you have ever worked in a group with under achievers.
As I sit in undergraduate lecture halls now a quarter of a century older than most of the future health care professionals, I realized that I was caught in a 1980s time warp. Oversized neon off the shoulder sweatshirts, rock band t-shirts, leather bomber jackets worn with acid wash skinny jeans or black spandex leggings minus the stirrup appears to be the basic college uniform. The rainbow assortment of Converse Chuck-Taylors were spotted everywhere I looked. I must also report that leg warmers must be back in a big way.
The 1980s fashion trends were not all that bad when I was growing up. However, I don’t think I will be adopting any of these1980s comeback fashion trends any time soon. Been there, done that. It’s fun to see the fashion trends I grew up with recycled and modernized with an up and coming generation. I just hope that shoulder pads have been incinerated forever.
It will not be a true 80s comeback unless these boots below:
Are replaced with:
Have you ever worn or heard of the Reebok Freestyle Hightops? I loved these sneakers and owned several pairs. I would criss- cross the upper velcro top straps for a little pizzazz.
Have a great evening!
